Strong, bold colours of Winter Season and knitwear

Effortless Colours for This Season

Posted by Caroline Teakle on

Season after season, chunky cables prove their staying power. This year, we're reaching for depth. Rich, saturated tones that feel intentional and considered, alongside the timeless warmth of ivory.

The Soft Touch Cable Pullover is the piece we keep coming back to. An oversized cotton-merino knit with drop shoulders, a split hem, and an in-house designed cable pattern that makes it anything but ordinary. It's also the design that started Maxted, and it's not going anywhere. Available this season in three colourways worth knowing about.

Plum

Call it Plum, Berry, Burgundy, or Port. Whatever you call it, this deep, rich tone feels fresh and modern this season, with an intensity that earns its place in any wardrobe. Pair it with mid-blue barrel jeans and brown suede boat shoes for a look that's effortless without being predictable.

Chocolate

Chocolate is back by popular demand, and it sold out fast last season. This warm, rich brown adds sophisticated depth to any outfit. Wear it with camel, cream, or olive for tonal dressing, or ground it with black for something sharper.

Ivory

Ivory continues to shine as a wardrobe essential. This creamy, off-white shade with subtle warm undertones exudes elegance and softness, making it the ultimate neutral for layering. It works with everything, which is exactly why it never goes out of style.

How to Wear Rich Tones Without Feeling Overdressed

Deep, saturated colour can feel intimidating if you're not used to reaching for it, but the principles are straightforward once you know them.

The key is to let the colour be the statement and keep everything else simple.

A rich Plum or Chocolate knit doesn't need a busy print or a bold accessory. Mid-toned denim is the easiest companion because it sits in the middle ground, neither competing nor disappearing. The Plum paired with mid-blue barrel jeans works precisely because the blue is calm enough to let the colour breathe.

For tonal dressing, stay within the same warmth family. Chocolate sits naturally alongside camel, tan, and cream because they share the same undertone. Mixing warm browns with cool greys tends to create an uneasy contrast that reads as an accident rather than a choice.

Ivory is the most versatile of the three because it reflects rather than absorbs. It lifts darker pieces underneath and softens bolder pieces on top, which is why it works as a layering piece in a way that deeper tones don't. If you're new to colour, start with Ivory and build from there.

Texture is also worth considering. A chunky cable knit already carries visual weight through its pattern, so the rest of the outfit benefits from smoother, flatter fabrics. Denim, leather, silk, and tailored wool all sit well against a cable because they offer contrast in surface rather than in colour or shape.

Style tip:

Go a size up for a statement silhouette, the easiest way to capture that effortless, oversized look.
